[so jail definitely exists in liyue because itto almost got arrested and other people in other quests definitely got arrested, but fuck if i know where it is. honestly, who knows if anyone would even succeed in putting xiao in jail, he could probably just vanish, but it's fine.

we're here now.

which is to say, yanfei's day had started out pretty normal. a few cases to look over and some contracts to review in the morning, a bit of light reading on the ridiculously difficult legal system in fontaine over lunch, and then a free afternoon - no pre-scheduled meetings for her. of course, there was always a chance she might get a walk-in during her office hours...

but never in a million years did she expect someone to come running in to inform her that the fatui had accused the conqueror of demons of murder, and that the snezhnayan diplomat envoy to liyue had raised such a big stink that xiao was actually being detained. the liyue qixing doesn't believe it for a second, the messenger had said, but they can't just tell them to get lost either! it's escalated beyond that!

so with a little tsk, she'd locked her doors, hung up a sign apologizing for being out, and headed on over.

xiao, in the millelith's custody, is a rather rare sight to see. for their part, the millelith don't seem to know what to do with themselves; they keep looking at each other and mumbling. a few high-ranking fatui diplomats are here, too, conceivably to conduct some kind of interrogation (good luck).

yanfei smiles pleasantly at them when she arrives, but then immediately proceeds to ignore them and look to xiao.]

Well, what do we have here?

[this definitely sounds like the setup for one of the cases the traveler usually handles, but last yanfei heard they were looking for a way to go to sumeru, so it's not like they're going to show up and handle it.

besides, this is a legal matter. who better to handle a legal matter than liyue's top legal advisor?]
